Re: Shooting Accident on Long Draw Road
Larimer County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a shooting accident 3.6 miles up on Long Draw Road off the Poudre Canyon Highway at 9:30 A.M., August 19, 2006.
It was reported that six friends had been camping in that area overnight. In the morning, Marc Givam of Thornton was firing a shotgun, apparently aiming at trees. Witnesses stated that Givam was unaware of the location of another in the group, Sawn Hakes.
Hakes, 23 year old male from the Denver area, was shot in the back if the head. Flight for Life was called and Hakes was transported to Poudre Valley Hospital. He was conscious and breathing at the time he was lifted out.
Although deputies believe this incident to be accidental, alcohol was a contributing factor. Marc Givam, 032284, was transported to the Larimer County Detention Center where he was booked on the following charges:
Second Degree Assault, class 5 felony; Reckless Endangerment, class 6 felony, and; Prohibited Use of a Weapon.
