I've loaded the control channels shown here on RR into my BC396 as well as the Gwinnett Fire talkgroups shown here. Yes, I've set up the system correctly (as a P25, etc). For some reason, I'm not able to even establish a connection with the active control channel, much less monitor the GCFD talkgroups (assuming they're not encrypted). Any suggestions? Is there a chance that there are other freqs that are being used as CCs?

Did you load the P25 control channels? They are different then the analog.

Guess working for a living has gone to your brain! :)

855.4875 is the main control channel. I receive them quite good on my 96 and 106. The FD comes through quite clearly. No, they are not encrypted. Only the PD and EMS to hospital. I do know they have 16 TG's for FD, but haven't found them yet. If you run Pro96com, it will confirm that you have it programmed correctly.

Gwinnett Fire

Thanks for the quick responses. I'm even grateful for Gator Man's response - that's what friends are for - to keep us humble. And yes, Mike, I did program it as a P25 system. By the way - I'm ready to have lunch again. In fact, we ought to organize a lunch for all of us "Atlanta regulars" here on RR.

I find that the reception of the P25 system drops off pretty fast when you leave the county. I used to get the Gwinnett analog system clear as a bell at the Cobb/Roswell line where I live. But I can't lock on to the p25 CC there.
We even have a very hard time getting it in midtown Atlanta WITH an external antenna.
So unless you live in the county, you just might not be able to pick it up. RC

I think you're right, Brother Cavitt. I work by Emory and I've not been able to lock on to the control channel there. I'll keep trying when I'm closer to the Gwinnett towers. Thanks!
