The ambulances in Hunterdon use cell phones to call the triage/head nurse directly. I believe they still have a radio for HEAR (I think they are required to) but you have to use DTMF to open it. Even after that they most likely will not answer.

My squad communicates with St. Barnabas in Livingston via H.E.A.R and they have not answered in quite some time, since they moved the triage desk. <scratching head>.

Now we just surprise them.

i had this discussion with a co-worker the other day. he said that the hospital's around the central jersey area mostly don't even answer the hear radio anymore. he's on a squad in the south jersey camden county area.he said that if a squad come's into a hospital down there without getting a hear alert from them, they get jumped on. when i was on a squad <circa 78-79> we either did not get an answer on hear,or did not even bothering calling. we were pretty close to our main hospital. this was back in the day that hear still had the old fashioned dialer. yes i know i'm well.....middle age.

I've had HEAR (155.340) in for 20 years and yes, in CNJ use has trailed off to nothing. Occasionally I'll hear a patient update on North or SouthStar (NJSP trunk) going hot into a trauma center, but that's about it.

i don't believe in general that als <paramedics> make any large scale use of the hear radio system. medic's usually use either med's 1-10 <uhf> or nextel for patient report's to hospital. i do remember the monoc medics in n.j. having hear in the vhf radio on the truck's.
