:?: While vacationing in the Outer Banks NC, I was getting skip on 155.925 , During there morning equipment check they advised that it was the Hamden fire dept. They had like seven or so Engines , a tower, two rescues and a Battlion chief. I looked them up on the internet but the frequencies don't match up? Anyone know anything? Thanks, Mike

Hey Mike,

I am a firefighter/paramedic for the Town Of Hamden Fire Department in Connecticut. We do our radio test, both apparatus and portables every morning (except Sunday) at approx. 8 am. The frequencey that it is transmitted on is 154.160. We have 5 Engs, 1 Tower, 2 Rescues and 1 Batt. Chief (Car 3). What were you listening in on?. Talk to you soon.

I also heard some sort of skip while I was down there on the same freq. I heard it on the evening of the 24th, around the route 158 highway 12 junction at around 9 PM. I was wondering what it was. My question is though they use a PL so why did it come through?

PL does not prevent skip. If your scanner does not have PL, it will receive ANYTHING. It doesn't matter who has what PL. If your scanner HAS PL, then it will not unmute for a transmission with a different or no PL. It doesn't matter where the signal is coming from.

Well, then one of the following was taking place:

1. The PL feature was no on
2. The PL feature doesn't work so well
3. They both have the same PL

:) Jimmy mac The outer banks also uses 154.160 and it is a simulcast 0n 155.925. The radio check was about 0800. I pick up an incident at hospital and alarm or something on one of the days it was coming in. Do you have a PL code for Hamden. Thanks for the Reply. Mike

Hamden Ct. PL is 107.2
Bob Milford, Ct.

PS- Here is a good site for Ct. fire and PD freqs with PL's in case you hear any more skip that you want to investigate.

http://www.angelfire.com/ct2/connfreq/

I can hear Group Cape Hatteres Coast Guard many summer nights up here in Ct. so I guess the skip goes both ways at times.
