The po-leece see ordinary citizens as enemies and adversaries?

Huh. Whoda thunk it?

Sounds like some citizens behold the po-leece as enemies and adversaries.

Whatever.

I would bet that if not so many people would post such valuable information freely onto the internet, that those in law enforcement management would not be wasting your tax dollars on those expensive encrypted radio systems.

One does not have to have an expensive scanner. ANYONE with a smartphone can listen to ANY of the RadioReference feeds. The situation was demonstrated at a police line-up.

DING DING DING - you're both correct.

If people keep posting Law-Enforcement related play-by-plays to the internet and re-broadcasting audio streams, soon there won't be anything to post or re-broadcast anywhere.

So a new digital scanner won't help

I noticed, I lost Hampton Police freq., heard they went digital. So started looking for a digital scanner to replace my Pro-97. From the news on this thread, that would be a waste of money, if encryption is also envolved. Is this a correct assumption?

Yes. If you are only interested in monitoring Hampton Police.
But, the Hampton Fire Department appears to be unencrypted.
A digitial scanner would also allow you to monitor the STARS system (state of Virginia).

Encryption

Police Calls Encrypted

As all you scanner enthusiast out there know by now Hampton has encrypted all their police calls. You can blame this on Homeland security that had been enacted to protect us from terrorist. Well it is being abused in many ways. I can see the police using one of the 5 or so encrypted channels they can use for sensitive items such as narcotics and license plate checks etc. But there is no need to block out everything. I know the news media uses it to report the news, but as of now the police can control what is given to the papers as they feel fit. This is just one step closer to government federal and local to control us all and take away our rights as they see fit. I guess now Hampton can win the all American city award because crime will be way down as there will be no newspaper reports as to what goes on except what is given them the by the department.
I would have sent this to my local paper's letter to the editor, but I did not want the storm troupers to retaliate to my article by breaking down my door by using the excuse that I had a radio that could decode their encryption. Somebody please save us all to what is to become of this Nation.

Bob,

Yes, to your question if you bought the scanner to only monitor HPD. However, you can monitor everyone else in the area, except some of York Co Fire.

Having lived in the Hampton area i to would miss listening to the PD.
But where I live now most police departments getting new radio systems go encrypted and with good reason.
The bad guys can get I phones and listen to on line scanners and put the officers lives in danger.
I love listening to the scanner but I have no REAL reason to do so unless its a service im affiliated with.
This is a hobby what the officers do is life and death, we should all be happy they go encrypted to protect us.
We also have a FD that is encrypted up here. What we do here is a hobby we have no real reason to listen!!!
The news media can FOI the tapes the next day for their news. No need to have it when its happening we can read about it next day as it does not involve us its just news.

Well stated- since most people have no concept of facsim or tyranny- it is gradual- and once its total- there is no going back. Since our population for the most part do not read anymore or study history- there is no urgency to voice concern- just a complacency-"officer safety" "smart-phones" "bad guys"- while some truth may be present in these concerns, the danger of government control and deception of the masses is certain.

It's always been an us vs them mentality.....on both sides. And it seems the more agencies try to hide their actions....the more skeptical those of us who are informed will become. I have read reports of officers in other areas who, when they thought they could not be monitored making fun of people and other outrageous and unethical comments. I'm sure it was just a few but still shows how things can get out of hand with no oversight. Look at the Rodney King MDT transcripts from officers who thought they could not be monitored. And I also know there are those out there who think all this is just "sour grapes" because we can no longer monitor these portions of public safety. maybe and maybe not but the more government can control the flow of information the easier it will be to keep people complacent . At least the FD is un-encrypte for now.

I wonder what else the US government gonna to take from us. We do different than those commonist countries. We have to defend our fifth amendment rights brothers and sisters.

I went to the job interview yesterday, and they looked surprised when i said i listened to everything on my scanner, shes asked you can still listen to P25 systems i was like yes P25 Systems doesnt mean automatic encryption..i told her i live up in stafford and the only agency with major encryption is the stafford county sheriff department...and i told her when im down there that i can tell encryption is mixed on the F/R side...she then stated that it wont be that way for long. I dont know if she was confused saying that everything will go encrypted down there or they will very soon go to Phase 2 TDMA

Never tell an agency you can hear them if they think you can't. That will make sure you can't.
