• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just aquired a Hand Held Controller for my Orion and well have some
small issues. I want to replace the system control head I have and
use ONLY the HH Controller.

The radio is a Remote Mount Orion ..

This is what I have .. system control head (this I want to eliminate
and replace with HH Controller), accessory cable and remote cable
between radio and control head.

I see that there is a separate speaker required. This I have but this
is the issue. How to connect both the controller and speaker. The
speaker used to be connected to the system control head via the
accessory cable. But I cannot connect both the controller and the
speaker or is a different cable required ?

So my question is this..

What is the easiest way to hook up the Hand Held Controller and
speaker to a remote mount Orion ? (I can plug the controller into the
cable from the radio .. but then cannot connect the speaker)

The other thing .. the keypad for the controller didnt write to the
radio .. even though I did select the controller from the Mobile
button when I programmed it. Did I miss something ? The handheld
controller works but isnt programmed with the items I programmed but
rather the default configuration.

Sorry if this is newbie like .. but I will be the first to admit I
dont know all there is to know about the Orion.

Any help would be appreciated

HHC Interface Cable Needed

First, you will need the interface cable for your HHC (Handheld controller) Part # CA101619V1R1A. The HHC connects to the "single" connector end. The remote cable from the radio, part # 19B802554P4, connects to the double connector end as well as the accessory option cable, part # 19B802554P7. This option cable allows you to connect your speaker. ( Please note that the above part # is for the non-siren option. If you are going to use the Federal siren and light package, S2000, you will need the V5 cable instead of the V1.)

As far as programming the HHC keypad, you must create a keypad file then write it to the radio. This is accomplished during the programming. Programmer has good help screens. I would highly recommend taking extra time and checking them out. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply .. I have now ordered a cable and I will work on the programming when that comes in. I do think that the HH Controller is an awesome option for those of us that want to keep their installation discreet from spying criminal eyes.

They do make an otherwise "obvious" installation into something a little more covert or unobtrusive. Especially when you mount them using a Panavise or ProFit vehicle specific dash mount. Good luck with the install.
