Seems that most/all? handheld receivers/transceivers have their antenna connection point to the right when facing the front of the unit.

Any thoughts on how that came to be?

Definitely not "ALL". The Anytones are a notable exception as far as transceivers go. I've seen the opposite as far as receivers: Looks at the major players in the biz: Uniden, Whistler, GRE/Radioshack. All of these have the antennas protruding out of the left side of the unit. In fact I don't think I've ever owned a receiver otherwise

Thanks for reply.

I have Unidens BCD396XT and SDS100 and, when viewed from the front -- where the keypad is -- they both have their antenna connections on top and to the right, so I'm confused about your comment, "... protruding out of the left side...."

Are you perhaps thinking of mobile or desktop units?

That's odd, my SDS100 has the antenna connector on the left.

Have another cup of coffee and check that SDS100 again.

So, after I've been humbled posting erroneous information about my Uniden scanners, why do so many handheld TRANSCEIVERS seem to have the antenna port to the right?

Really, looks like a left-handed Baofeng and CS120D and CS750, maybe it's just some models rather than most, and maybe it is just the designers choice rather than a standard. Even Motorola radios aren't standard.

I have ... several ... (OK too many) HTs, and a few hand-held scanners, and almost all of them have the antenna on the left side.

Edit: I'm not home so I can't look at all of them, but I think I only have one with an antenna on the right side, and I'm planning to sell it!

Those APX portables on the right are actually the same model, just front and rear views. The higher end models have their main display on what has traditionally been the back, just FYI.
