I have a RadioShack PRO-94 scanner, What is the best antenna for it? I have a ruber coated antenna, about 6 inches tall that came with my PRO-76 and I have a metal antenna, about 6 inches tall but it extends to about 2 feet. Which is better, can one pick up reception from a further distance? Is one clearer sounding? I really dont know much about this. I would like to get the best antenna for my handheld scanner.........

It depends on the frequency. The best antenna for 850 MHz is about 7" long. The best antenna for VHF-hi (150-174 MHz) is about 17" long. If you're going to be listening to more than one band you'll have to compromise.

I have to disagree on that. I had one of those and did absolutely nothing for me. Maybe it was just my area or my scanner?

I have an antennex handheld antenna that covers 150 to 162 MHz. They can be found at antennex.com. It works fairly well. Better than the stock.

Also I have a Diamond RH77CA that can be purchased at universal-radio.com and it works great for VHF-High.

I have the Radio Shack 800 MHz antenna for my trunking and 800 coverage.

No one antenna will give great coverage on all bands. You have to comprimise or buy a band specific antenna or multiple antennas.

Lots of people say it is a good antenna. It probably is, it is just didn't work that well for me.

On the other hand, I have a VR-120 that I use with the extendable whip from a Pro-2055 and it will beat any of my scanners hands down on VHF-High reception.
