If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I just got two Harris radios online and I'm needing to get Version 5 or 6 of the firmware so I can upgrade it to v7. I have v7 but the upgrade kit says its beyond the kit. I guess that means it's too old.
Current on both radios is A4.05.16.003

Can anyone point me in the right direction of where to find the v5 or v6 Firmware. I have googled several times different ways and no luck.

Thanks in advance

Before you go down that road, the firmware in the radios may be old enough that you can transition to Hytera firmware… I don’t remember the specifics, but I seem to recall needing a V5 firmware to make the jump and once you upgrade past there, you are permanently stuck with Harris.

Just something to think about…

Yeah I have already researched that and can't find any for sure instructions on how. Also don't want to risk losing wideband capabilities.

I have a PD782 and a Brand new Harris HDP782. Both are great radios. I can't really tell a difference between the two so the risk of possibly bricking the Harris while trying to convert it to a Hytera was not worth the risk to me since it works find and does what I need it to on v7.

My issue has been resolved. The firmware that came with the radios is what was not compatible with the v7 upgrade kit. I found A4.05.16.003 in my files and upgraded both radios to that and the v7 upgrade kit took it and now both radios are v7.

Thank you for your help though.

FYI those radios are almost impossible to brick. I've done a lot of bad things to them while working on conversions back to Hytera firmware and I've always been able to recover it (even after forcing a UHF codeplug into a VHF radio lol). Hytera was smart and kept the bootloader separate from the OS, so if you hose the thing you can still recover.

That's good to know for future reference, but I don't know how to convert it. Someone said something about editing the model list or something. I appreciate the response.

I'm really just saying I don't want to risk doing the convert because I don't know how to do it.

On really old firmware, yes... editing the model list was part of it. I can also be done on newer firmware, but it's a little more involved. If the V7 Harris firmware suits your needs I'd just leave it alone.

where can i find release notes for Harris Momentum V6&V7 or a comparison sheet between the 2 fw's? I Prefer the transmit animation on v6 better than v7 & want to know if its worth the upgrade to v7 & if there are more features on it etc..

Good luck finding that. Harris pretty much scrubbed anything Momentum related from their site quite a while ago. A major US military contractor working with Hytera likely didn't have the greatest look to it.

According to Hytera release notes..

6.1 Added RC4/Enhanced privacy for free (was previously a paid feature) and made it compatible with Moto
6.5 Added a slew of new features and enhancements
I don't have notes for 7 by the looks of it....

So after a little more digging it turns out I had the Momentum R7 release notes in my archives...
