• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello Harris owners.

I was told that Harris radios can do “true” non affiliate scanning. Is this true or am I being lied to?

If it can, how good are harris mobiles on simulcast systems?

Thanks!

It can, tell its transmitter to shut up and it obeys.
Perfect! I recently obtained an XG75M from a friend of mine who didn’t need it anymore.

I do have software so that is not a problem, It seems to me that all I have to do is set the site registration to “never”

Thanks again! Have a good night

You don’t NAS with a Harris.
Very true. The "NAS" term resulted from programming procedures to "trick" MOTOROLA radios into not registering and affiliating on a trunked radio system.L3H radios "can" just be programned (by design) to not register and affiliate and just passively monitor. There is no NAS programming "trick" for them, but mentioning that the "NAS" term only applies to MOTOTOLA radios has resulted in a hissy fit about confusing people. As if the incorrect use of the "NAS" term hasn't resulted in confusion.....

Ah my apologies, I guess I should just say passive scanning instead.

I appreciate the input! Have a great night everyone.

Not true. A system admin friend of mine got a correctly NAS whatever you call it XG100 to TX data to a CC. Now, he told me he is unsure of why the radio did it, but he said GW showed the RID. He being on NAS talk group, the Radio would key up for a split second then bonk. This is unknown to the both of us, but the system sees it as a UNAFFILIATION... So no. It sometimes wont obey. Just be careful. Mileage may very... I personally use a BKR KNG P800.

He didn't program it for RX only. When the radio tried to affiliate, it was denied by the system.

He has done this for a little over 10 years... I assure you, everything was triple checked.
I have done this for well over 10 years and I do make boo boos now and then, even tripple checking.
Now if it is all set up correctly, no way the radio will ever try to affiliate, it just won't happen.
