Harris Unity Mobile questions

I am new to Harris. My department recently purchased 3 unity Mobiles with the CH-100 head for our Battalion Chief vehicles. I am mostly from a Kenwood/Motorola background, so RPM is new and a little strange for me. I perused and searched the forum, but have not been able to locate an answer.

I am in Southern California and for our Wildland operations we need to be able to "hard tone" the RX side for a given frequency and have the ability to change the repeater input tone to select the best repeater site in the area. We have multiple overlapping repeater pairs that are assigned separate input tones for access.

I currently have a mobile on a temporary bench setup so I can familiarize myself with it. On this bench radio, I have the ability to access the channel guard menu, but when I wrote to the BC radio, this option is grayed out. I added some things to this load that aren't yet on the bench, so I am guessing that I inadvertently changed a setting in RPM.
I selected "tone encode" under "signaling" within the conventional frequency set and entered a tone on the RX side of the channel.

I attached a screenshot which hopefully will help answer any questions.


My other question for now is whether or not there is an option to reconfigure any of the keys/buttons on the CH-100 screen. It looks like there are 3 blank soft keys across the bottom of the screen. Most radios have the ability to move or reassign buttons, but I am not seeing the option here.

That tone encode is for 2-tone signalling not PL/CTCSS. You will want to create a new channel for each different transmit PL.

The buttons are assigned (A/B/C/D) in the keypad options menu.

Thanks for the reply, DisasterGuy. On the original test personality I made, I have the option to change the Channel Guard tone for both the TX and RX side under the "call options" menu button, if I remember that correctly. I don't have the radio in front of me.

I can still see the channel guard button in the newer updated personality, but now it's greyed out.

Having a separate channel for each tone would be prohibitive as both the State and Fed forestry, as well as the local County FD operates this way. It's ridiculous, but I don't have any say in the matter.

On the key options menu, I only see a row of check boxes for "ramp wrap", "hookswitch disable scan", "hookswitch disable CG" plus other greyed out options and nothing referencing key assignments.
