Harris Unity XG-100 programming

I just got a XG-100 that the seller did a factory reset on the radio. I’m looking for someone that could point me in the right direction about getting it programmed for amateur radio use. I have contacted the local Harris radio dealer earlier this week with negative results. They wouldn’t even give me a quote for getting the radio programming done. Thanks

I dont want to sound like a jerk, but if someone cant figure out how to do a PM, then how you gonna figure out programing a Harris radio ?

My browser does not show "Start Conversation" as a pop-up over the users name. I'll try another. I was trying to get RPM2 at the best price point without popping the big one. Old question I know.

The cheapest legitimate, stand alone version of RPM2 (which still comes bundled with the original RPM) is around $750. Some have purchased the ‘additional seat’ for $450 and have reported that it works just like a new install. These prices are for the non-dongle version, which uses a software key sent to you by L3H after purchase. More expensive versions come with a usb key instead and can travel between multiple computers.

All of this is for conventional programming. To program a trunking system, you also need a system key for the specific system, which is issues by the system administrator.

What radio are you trying to program? You may only need older ver of RPM not the current.

@kg7yc you won’t find L3H stuff just sitting on an e-commerce page with an option to “add to cart”. It’s all dealer controlled. There are catalogs released at least annually, with part numbers and prices. For instance SS-SW1E is “RPM/RPM2, annual updates, no dongle” and cost a bit under $750 as of a year ago. Haven’t looked at prices since then. These products are available from a regional dealer.

Exactly. If its a XG100P then RPM2 wont work. I have read that it will work on the M depending on FW. I may be wrong.

I know RPM1 is available and have seen it on Ebay. Shocking that Harris would allow that.

Ya… that’s not a legit copy. The only way to get a license for RPM is to buy the bundle that includes it with RPM2.

100M with R06T02 works great with RPM2. Makes it really easy to keep the 100Ms and 200P in sync mission plan wise!

Thats good to know. I like the 200P, but a little out of what I want to spend and I would have to get RPM2. The 100M seems to be real popular radio. If I need the mobile I may have to look into one. How are the 200P holding up ?

A license dongle by itself is $650.

I just bought one for work as we sometimes have a need to do programming with no trunked system involved (plus when the trunking key expires it also expires your software license, so you're dead in the water until the trunking key is refreshed).

I really like mine… especially with the XL-ESM, which is loud enough that I can drive with the windows down and the stereo on and still hear the radio calls. The radio is relatively small and light with great battery life.

The state apparently doesn’t like Harris radios though… they say it’s too easy to program the radios without a system key so they won’t let my radios on the system, even though I have a system key holder authorized by the SO all set to program them… a real shame since SAR is always asking for grant money for more radios and we have about half the number of DTR radios we need… huge waste of resources, but they are the gatekeepers…

Thats cool on the XL-ESM and 200P. I cannot understand the states issue with Harris. The same argument can be said on Motorola since the release of a "program" that will make sys keys. You being authorized by the SO should not be an with the state, but thats how they are. I can feel the pain for the SAR guys. Radios these days are crazy in price. Look at the APX8K cost vs Harris.
