    To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Specifically part number CA023407-001
One would think for all the portables in the wild, this cable would be an easy find.

Is that cable usable on the XG-15?
Yes, 15, 25, 75 - also looking for one, but obviously merlin is #1 in the queue. Doesn't seem like it would be impossible to make, but believe there is an IC that's hard to source (it's been a while) in order to cobble one together.

Damn, if there is an IC, that really sucks! I’m happily programming and key loading P7100s with great success… there is a big lump in the programming and keyloading cables, so definitely some electronics involved in making that happen, but I have seven VHF P25C/AES256 P7100s and they work like gangbusters on my IG pool freqs. That’s 11 Harris radios all working to keep my comms private!

A 3D printer may be the answer here… not what you want to hear, but someone has made and is selling a 3D printed accessory for the 100P and it’s pretty reliable fwiw…

From the help section of RPM under "Programming the Radio" is the serial pinout for the P7300/XG-75p.

From the help section of RPM under "Programming the Radio" is the serial pinout for the Unity Portable/XG-15P. This should be a simple cable to make using an old speaker mic if it will also work for the XG-75P.

Makes me wonder if one of these couldn't just interface to a properly wired speaker/mic connector fairly easily:

Specifically, this one @ 5v (adding a 5v regulator as well):

New! A232DBCT same as the above but it includes the CTS/RTS lines. Available as a 5v module ( A232DBHCT ) or a 3.3v module (A232DBHCT3V). The modules include a plastic DB9 hood kit. Pinouts on the board are V+,GND,CTS,RTS, TX and RX

So I'm trying to build a programming cable for the XG-75P from an old speaker mic per this diagram, and for some reason it's not working. When I attempt to read the radio, the light at the top flashes red numerous times, but I keep getting the failure to initialize error in RPM, as well as Radio Maintenance.

In the above diagram, should the colors on the left side correspond to the colors on the speaker mic cable? Or, will I need to cut into the UDC assembly itself, and re-solder new wires based on the above diagram?

Also, what am I supposed to do with the Red wire on the speaker mic? I obviously don't have a Max233A module, is this absolutely required? Or is it possible to build something with just an older speaker mic and DB-9 serial cable?

EDIT: After further research I have confirmed you absolutely cannot build a XG-75P programming cable with a speaker mic, the pin layout is different. Furthermore, you apparently have to have a RS232/TTL line converter inline. I guess that's why these cables are so dang expensive, and cannot be found used on Fleabay or anywhere else.

I did find a pretty cheap RS232/TTL converter, however I would still need a connector for the radio with the correct pin layout. Seems like that would be pretty difficult to fabricate yourself.
