Recently in a press release which can be found on the opening page of this site there was an article about the Harrison County EDACS stability and how it remained up during and after Katrina. The release further went on to speak about how they were adding more channels to the sites and were expected to have that in place in the near future. Well that date had already come and went and I had not found ANY new channels, UNTIL TONIGHT.
It seems (and I'm puzzled how they did this) that they're using 900 mHz frequencies. See their exsisting system is in the 860-868mhz range with 2 sites. I had been scanning 850 to 869mhz now for a few weeks and found nothing. Tonight I got bored and extended my search range into the 900 to 958mhz range. And guess what I found???
I found 2 EDACS control channels which didn't use to be there. (Use to because I had previously scanned that range a couple of months ago. Then I began finding a bunch of active frequencies with PROVOICE transmissions. A few short analog transmissions. I believe I've found the additional stuff mentioned in that press release. The thing that puzzles me is I didn't know they made a trunking radio that worked in both 850-870 and 950-958 mhz bands. I know with Motorola if you want 800mhz you'll have an 800mhz radio and if you want 900mhz you'll have a 900mhz radio but they don't have one that works in both bands together.
Anyhow I found 2 control channels, one was weaker than the other. I'm assuming one is at the Biloxi tower (near me) and the other is a Gulfport tower (weaker one) I think I found all of the frequencies for each site but none of them are in LCN order. I just jotted everything down. Hopefully in the near future we'll be able to get LCN's for them and add it to the database.
