Works great for my situation. I only use it with SDS200/100 scanners and use the Diamond discone for all other applications.

Out of curiosity, what are you using it for? Picking up a specific distant source? I’ve heard of people using a yagi to point to a specific site to help eliminate simulcast distortion for scanners that are NOT the SDS100/200, but not the other way around (yagi for SDS, discone for everything else, like you’re doing).

its the jefferson county al p 25 simulcast site i am dead in the middle of the county i have multiple towers around me.
so i have to have a ant aimed directly at a tower to kill this. to many towers sending data at the same time. the stand alone towers are perfect.
just dont hear countywide on stand alone sites . bcd 996 xt and bcd 996p2

I would make sure that there are no towers past the one you are going to aim at, the directionality of a yagi will bite you in the ass. This may be one of those times where the closest isn't actually the best.

I just looked up the spread of that simulcast system, and there are def. a couple of places where i'd aim AWAY from the closest tower because there's another tower behind it, so it will depend on your locale.

depending on your signal strength into the front end of the scanner thru the yagi, you might have to attenuate. Might help as well.

After acquiring my SDS scanners I still use it for the Ohio MARCS P25 Phase 1 digital simulcast system. I switch off and on between that and my Diamond D300 discone. I installed it specifically for that system when I was monitoring with a couple different digital scanners and trying to properly decode the lsm, and it did a fairly good job. From my QTH at home, not only is it aimed at the nearest site but also at the Montgomery county site. Still serves a good purpose, great antenna.
