I had a GRE 500 scanner and I have Win500 on my computer with all the objects that I had in my GRE500 scanner. Now I want to clean out all the objects that I have in my Win500 that I have on my computer.

I would think all I need to do is highlight all of the objects in the computer Win500 program go up to Edit and hit delete. Is that correct?

Now I want to put the USB cord in my 106 scanner connect it to my computer where I have the Win500 on. This is where it gets complicated. How do I program all of the objects I have in my scanner to the Win500 program? Can I just input all? Or is it more complicated. The more I read the more I don't understand it. I just want to put everything I have in my scanner into the Win500 program on my computer but don't think it is as easy as clicking on a button.

Need some help.

Thanks

I'm not really sure what you're trying to do here, but you may be over-complicating the process.

If I understand you correctly, you have Win500 on your PC, with the programming file that was previously used on a PRS-500. There is no need to delete that from Win500. I presume that your file has a name of some sort, so just for now, assume it's named GRE500.

For your Pro-106, that you apparently have now, just use Win500, and your cable, to read that into Win500.
Click on the Scanner drop-down menu at the top of the screen, and select "Download from Scanner", or use the shortcut <CTRL>+<D>.
That will download the contents of what you have on the Pro-106 into a new file in Win500, which you can then save with a name. For simplicity here, save it as PRO-106, or whatever name you want.

This will leave you with both your original 'GRE500' file, from your PSR-500, as well as a copy of the current Pro-106's programming. If you wanted, you could simply delete the old 500 file, but there's no real advantage to doing so. You can have multiple files accessible in Win500. Every time you open one of them, then upload that to the scanner, such as your Pro-106, it will replace any programming in the scanner, except for those stored in one of the V-folders. By having both the old GRE500 file, as well as the current Pro-106 file accessible, you retain the option to copy selected objects from your old file to the new, without having to re-enter all of the information.

To clear out Win500 and get the program back to the defaults, simply do File; New Template. This will open a new tab with everything cleared out or reset to the default values. Nothing magic about it and is the easiest way to get things empty.

To get your current programming from your scanner into Win500, simply do Scanner; Download from scanner. Once that task completes, Win500 will have the settings that your scanner is programmed with.

Next, you should save that information onto your computer for future use (also as a backup if your scanner memory gets corrupted somehow or you hit the wrong button and change a setting that causes issues). This is also simple, press File; Save as... enter a useful filename (I use something descriptive and include the date and time the file was created, like "Pro197 Load - 20140603"). and press Save.

As Steve indicated, you can have many saved files and I encourage you to do so. When making changes, I first read the scanner and save that file named as indicated above. I then make my changes and save a new file with those changes (note, I add the time after the date to keep them separate like "Pro197 Load - 201406032106") and then upload the new programming to the scanner. If I did something that didn't work out as I wanted, I can then open the first of those files and upload that to the scanner and those undesired changes have been reversed.

Win 500 more questions

Okay I now have my scanner objects in my win500 downloaded yesterday. I read everyone's posts and did what I was told. The clone that I have has many objects that I don't want to listen to on the scanner. So I see there is an area on win500 that I can lock them out. If I darken the small box does that mean they are locked out?

Next the LED I am changing colors to give me the heads up when listening to the scanner or am on the other side of the room I can see what is being scanned. So I found the place that can take place in wine 500. After doing this color change I unhooked the scanner from the computer and listened to the scanner and noticed that the LEDs are not going to the color codes I set up. No colors are on or flashing after I saved them in win500. Now the question is after I downloaded my scanner to the win500 program do I now need to UPLOAD from the Win500 program to my scanner so the color codes work and the objects I don't want are locked out?

I just want to clear up what I stated in my last reply. So I have made some changes in the win500 program with the LEDs lights on certain objects that I wish to listen to and I want to lockout many objects that don't apply in my area. I did all of that this morning on the win500 program and saved it on my computer. None of the changes I made on the computer rolled over to my scanner. This is were im perplexed. How do I get the changes to carry over to my scanner? I see I can upload maybe from my win500 to my scanner. Not sure I want to do that unless I ask! However in makes sense if I make changes to the program then save it all the info needs to be uploaded back in my scanner. Just need to know what I need to do here as I don't want to screw up the objects I have in my scanner.

If this is the case on uploading back in my scanner every time I make a change in my win500 program I need to save it and then make a upload in my scanner. I read so much about this stuff I get confused on what to do.

Then there is priority! If I want priority on say two different objects when scanning and one of the objects I set for priority does the scanner automatically scan the active channel that I have on priority?

Thanks

Any time you change something in the program you need to upload to scanner. If you don't, how does the scanner know what has changed?

Ok got that about the upload. Figured it when I change it in the computer win500 it may save in the scanner guess not. Before I upload anything I want to make sure I have everything set.

I only want to listen to a select few objects as many of them are not even in my area. Do I check the box? Currently they are all white in the column L out.

Thanks

Win500 Question

I looked in the link about the Win500 and have seen nothing about priority or about the Lout column in Win500 I have even searched the net and still can't find out anything about either one of these questions than I need an answer to. I would think Win500 would have a index but I guess not.

Take your existing file, in Win500, then either selectively delete (or lock out) the objects that you do not want to listen to at this time, because they are 'out of your area'.

Once you've modified your existing file, use File->Save As to save it on your pc under a new name. That will leave your original file available, should you need all of it, or parts, at a later time, and also will give you the separate, trimmed down & renamed version as well. With your renamed (trimmed file) active in the software, just load it to the scanner using your cable and Scanner -> Upload to Scanner from the drop-down menu. That will have your Pro-106 with the same objects set as what you have in the renamed file on your pc. Just remember that if you make later changes, additions, or deletions in the scanner, make the same ones in Win500, either manually, or by downloading from the scanner to the software. Similary, any changes you make on the PC in the software, those changes will not be in the scanner until you send the file from the PC to the radio.

I have several file versions for my PSR-500, for use in several different areas, or situations. I've loaded the various files to the v-folders in the scanner, that way, I can shift from one programming file to another when away from the computer.

You should see both the Pri (Priority) and LOut (Lockout) columns when you look at either the Conventional Objects tab (conventional, non-trunked, frequencies) as well as the TSYS Objects tab (in the lower, TGRP (talkgroup) section and the 'All Objects) tab.

Select the ones you wish to lock out by clicking on the box in the Lockout column by each object, save your changes, then download the revised file to your scanner.

For Priority, check the box in Priority column for each object that you want to designate as such. Remember that the more items you set as Priority, the longer the interruption in reception of an active channel as the scanner briefly checks for traffic on the designated Priority objects. You can control how often the scanner checks for Priority activity by setting the time range on the General Settings tab. Here you would also need to make any desired changes, then save the file, and upload to the scanner so that your changes will take effect.

Saving changes from win500 to scanner

Ok I have everything set in my win500 program on my computer and ready to imput into my scanner. I have the changes saved in the win500 program. Now I want to upload everything to my scanner. I know I go up to the top of the program and hit import have the scanner on and the usb cord hooked up to the scanner.

Now I want to make sure I save the update in my scanner. What do I need to push on my Radio Shack 106 scanner to save the update. Step by step.

Thanks

WRONG!

Import doesn't do it. What you need to do is:

Scanner >> Upload to Scanner

You can also do:

Ctrl+U

Hint—Look at the picture below the yellow bar in the link I posted 3 April 2016

I meant to say upload! I want to upload to my scanner but I want to save the upload in my scanner and don't know the steps to do that part. I know every time I upload a change in Win500 I need to save the change in my scanner as well. I did read that on a few forum pages but I don't know the steps to do it properly.

Thanks

TES,
I have read that link and the yellow highlighted area you're speaking about however it does not show how to save the latest upload in the scanner. That is what I need to know and need to know the steps to do it.

I have heard I can upload new changes from Win500 multiple times as object do change every so often. The change must be saved As a new item in Win500 and then uploaded to the scanner and Saved there as well

TES said to look at the picture below the yellow bar - this picture:

Scanner --> Upload to Scanner will take care of it.

I got that part. I mean what do I need to do in the scanner itself after the upload is made. The program also needs to be saved in the scanner as well in the memory of the scanner. I understand how the upload is made to the scanner from the program. Every time you change something on Win500 and upload it in your scanner the scanner program needs to be saved in your scanner as well I need to know what are the steps needed after the upload is put in my scanner? How do I do that?

You don't need to do anything once the Upload is finished. The changes override what is in the scanner. Just go back to operating the scanner normally.
