I'm running HDSDR with a dongle and upconverter. I'm getting confused about how the LO tracks the tune frequency.

In particular I'd like my tune frequency to be like 10khz away from the LO frequency. I think I had this working before but I can't remember what things I tweeked to get it. I'd like my rx frequency not so close as the LO frequency. Is that possible?

I'm thinking its in the

options>rf front-end frequency options and calibration
but I'm not able to get what I want.

Is it in the sync mode and IF frquency section?

tks

WA5NGP first lets change the tuning method of HDSDR
Go to options then Mouse wheel and Select Mode:Tune.

You can now think of the LO as a chunk of radio spectrum that you can see to the left and right in the upper waterfall.

You can now "TUNE" within that chuck of spectrum set in the waterfall.

Let me know if this helps.

Yep, that all makes sense. I understand.

The problem is that when I move the Tune the LO moves with it in lock step. Somehow, I've managed to lock them together. They stay within a few hz of one another so whatever I'm listening to is always very close to that big spike. That's what I'm trying to eliminate, being so close to that spike. I must have selected a mode or specified a value (unknowingly) that locks them together.

OK, I finally figured out the problem.

I went to options >misc options>set tune osc offset , mine was set to 0hz so the tune was right on top of LO. I put in 500 and now I've got the separation I wanted.

tks for the pointer.

To remove that "Spike"

Click on options then Input Channel Calibration for RX then on the top in between Mode & Bandwidth select AUTO.

Hit OK
Spike is now gone

Spike is gone. tks.

I have several questions about the entries on rf front end calibration. Do you have a pointer/link where I can look that stuff over? I have rough idea but I'd like to understand better.

things like sync on IF output etc.

I haven't found that stuff in the faq.

Almost everything in that tab has to do with either running a up/down converter or using HDSDR in a panadapter configuration. I will dig up some info and post it here.

Any other issues i can help you with?

I am using an upconverter with LO of 109mhz. I have tinkered with use as a panadapter but the results were not that great, probably due to the way I hooked it up I decided that the SDR as it was was good enough for my usage. I have not had any front end overload problems. I don't mind studying on my own to figure out what does what but I have not found much detailed information so a pointer would help me.

I am going to set it up with a T/R relay so I can quickly switch the antenna to my transceiver.

It would be great to understand all these settings/configurations.
