I am glad to hear some of EMSA is using it - we trained our guys early on and just couldn't believe the few times we were able to find someone to talk to. We enjoy having EMSA on our subfleet and encourage it since we have a substantial relationship with you. Although the 7e/5e talkgroup has yet to become fully effective (IMO) we still are programming it into our 6E so we can have better access to it.

I'll tell our guys to start using 5e at night and put you to the test :)

tkjr, yeah that was me on both. Most controllers still get confused at the thought of all the channels. I have been listening all my life so I slipped right in. That's kinda cool to know that people were listening! :)

Tom,

I agree that it is not used to the capacity that it should be. I'm glad that you are getting it programmed into your 6E. That makes it much easier for people who hate all the "bells and whistles" and don't want to learn. Switching zones on the xts is so easy yet confuses so many people! :) Now my question for you...Do your crews monitor it while we're enroute. You can always call us at night but can we call you on it? Just curious. I feel your pain though, we're digital and when I'm out west of your city I can't get a digital signal on portable so I'll switch to E since it's analog and call dispatch and nobody will answer! :) Definately let your guys know and tell em to put me to the test. I work every Wed and Thur and every other Fri-Sun 1900-0700. Look forward to working with you on this issue, maybe we can come up with solutions for the other shifts.

Well I appreciate it. EMSA crews have always been great - especially with the call volume we run in the springs. We've trained all the firefighters on the 5e switch, but most are hesitant to get outside their zone since dispatch doesn't monitor anything but fd/pd a & b and the rma channels. I wouldn't hold my breath trying to contact us on 5e since we will probably use it only to contact you all. I honestly wish you all had a talkgroup for each city you respond to (which I guess would just be us and Tulsa since Jenks and Bixby aren't motorola) - not unlike the channel for each hospital thing.

If you're ever in the springs, stop by and get the tour.

ok, i will do. You're welcome to stop by the comm center for the tour too. What do you mean by the zone for each city? I think I understand, like sandsprings zone would have EMSA a, b, c, d, and e, also springs pd/fire, and tulsa with tfd, tpd and the emsa channels, airport police, and then maybe a zone with the hospitals? that would make way too much sense! I like it though! We do have your channel in our radio on 4B, and I am correct that we are clear to talk on your freq correct?

I wonder if it's changed since the days when I was across the wall. circa 1997-1998. I hope the days of paperball fights between EMSA and Telecom are alive. Myself and Dana used to have lots of fun. What really sucks is I remember Dana well since I would talk to him every now and then..but I can't remember the names of any cutie pies that used to be there. Oh well, maybe that's a blessing.

Where do you work habpatrol?

Lets just say that I get dispatched from about thirty feet away from where you normally sit.

I have only been switched over to your 7E (my 5E) once or twice. It is just a lot easier for me to tell my dispatcher to pass on a message than to have to deal with switching channels. I didn't know if I could cancel a crew on your 7E or if my dispatch had to notify your dispatch to make it official.

I do try and be EMSA friendly and cancel you guys on stupid people that just want a taxi to the hospital. I know that you guys aren't "supposed" to refuse service from anyone that says they need to go to the hospital.

Not that I don’t like stupid people, because without them, a lot of us would be out of a job.

habpatrol - so you must work baker squad...that's where all the habs are! :) What's your ident? You guys can request us on 5E, but you can also cancel us or update us on the call on 5E. Feel free to call us anytime, that's what it's there for.

Tom - Glad to hear it, I was going to mention, you really must've worked some majic today, it's the first time I've heard SSFD on 7E in a long time! It was nice! I also had the crew drop down to 7E for traffic as we were doing a standby for the structure fire you had on 97 W Ave. I think you went...aren't you FD2?

Folta - Stop by anytime! I don't mind giving a quick tour to anyone. I don't know if you ever considered going to EMT school, but if you could bear the few months, you could work down here. It's pretty cake for the most part. I think we pay the best starting rate as well. Our night shift, since you're a night person, work 5 on, 2 off, 2 on, 5 off. It's nice to get that 5 day weekend. Just something for you to consider. They did offer to send one lady to EMT school, so they might you, but I can't speak for them, she ended up quitting before we sent her so that may have put a bad taste in their mouth, it's worth checking into. Again, feel free to stop by, just e-mail me and let me know if you want to and when.

Matt - The paperwad fights are still on! Wow, Dana's old! :) That does suck! There's not that many cuties down here now, just the occasional one or two. Names aren't important anyhow! :) j/k.

smoken thanks, i will try to get by one night and see it, it would be so cool to actually put faces to the voices i hear on the radio, i know who dave long is,dont know him just seen him on patrol before and at the big mansion fire a few months back, i dont know if i wanna be a medic, id have a hard time being fair to some idiot who got hurt by being a dumbass or some meth head, id laugh at them. who knows though, if david lee roth can do it maybe i could too. i heard about the 400 word per minute typing requirement by city of tulsa, im good to get 10 words a minute in. thats why i wondered if i could work in records, didnt know if they had to type too???

Nope, sorry. He worked Adam squad, not Baker squad. I’m a little hesitant to give out my designator. I guess the job makes me a little paranoid. If I run into you out in the field I will say hello.

Take care

Ya know, that's something I never understood. Why be paranoid? What's to worry about? I mean..I've worked law enforcement, I've been on the road, been in the jail, been in dispatch, even been in a max security prison. I don't get it. But, you're not alone. Okla-lawman is just as paranoid as you, if not more so. :)

I know of one former member here who was actually disciplined by his department for his postings, even though he discussed nothing that wasn't readily available in the public domain, such as on the FCC website. In order to keep his job he had to shut down his website and remove all his posts from here. The brass doesn't like it when the troops speak out. The PD I used to work for was the same way. The Chief went ballistic when the local FOP lodge publically endorsed a political candidate, even though half the local FOP members were from agencies other than the city PD. He even threatened to fire the lodge president. This was years ago, and that chief has since retired.

Paranoid? Maybe.
With reason? YES!

The brass doesn't like it when the troops speak out. Very true. I think that's because they have something to hide. Actions like the ones mentioned above don't help to dispell rumors of the "Blue Wall of Silence".

Ok heres my look on it.
All the police radios in Jenks, gleenpool so forth scan the police frequencies talkgroup (probably their 7 bank as that is always the radios home bank since the last reprogramming). Emsa and fire talkgroups are grouped together on a different talkgroup as they are not used on a regular basis. The radios can only scan the talkgroup they are on. Thats why I have a scanner too.

Ba/Bixby permanent link. OMG you got to be kidding. BA went city mangement went with that system on purpose as not to be like anyone else. The Capt. who was over the project wanted motorola. When the then city manager found out this Capt was called into the chiefs office and was told that he was not being a team player. Even in the face of facts they went edacs. They want to be on their own. Look at how they renamed all the streets..lynn lane is 9th, 129th is olive and so foth they are ate up with it.

There is been more than one person got in trouble over their views in these froum from their depts. Gleenpool 911 was off for a long time, The glenpool dispatcher that postd the talkgroups for his dept had a lot of pressure on him and for that and other reasons ended up leaving. I agree with habpatarol. I am not giving out my designator and will not confirm or deny who I even work for. Only one person on here knows for
sure and he helped me on a case.

Mfolta you would of burned hab patrol if he was v60 as the news showed
Tpd Sgt Rohloff as a new storm spotter.

Mfolta you can always do the route of Catherine (or was she channel 6)
and go to work for her employer. Last I heard they had 20 openings.....
well of course a lot more in the jail too.
