I am in San Diego County, Ca. I have seen numbers inside the circles and triangles on helipads. Any idea what these numbers represent? They do not coincide with specific buildings as I have seen several buildings with the same numbers on them. They also do not match up to the amount of floor on any building. Any ideas?

i'm not a pilot but they most likely indicate the altitude of the pad above sea level. For instrument flight this can be important so that altimeters can be properly set.

If not an altimeter reading could it be an indication of average wind direction for the pilot to consider the best approach?

Are these helipads mounted on buildings? If so, I bet they are weight limits, since there are different sizes of helicopters.

I've seen a corporate helipad that was marked "PVT" to indicate it was private.
