Hello
My name is Frank Schwalbach. I just recently became interested in radio scanning about a couple of months after being hired on the CP Rail when the wife and kids wanted to be able to hear "daddy talking on the radio" when I was in town with a train (I'm a railfan as well and like to hear railroad transmissions). So the first scanner I bought was a handheld Radio Shack Pro-94. The first frequencies programmed in was a the local railroad channels and a couple of police channels. My interest in radio scanning really grew when I came across a motherlode of frequencies on the internet which consisted of Police/Fire/Ambulance, Railroad, HAM,Air,and even industrial factory, and fast food frequencies!! Needless to say, I have become addicted to listening to all kinds of channels on the scanner and I have felt I have just recently been bitten by the bug and starting to take serious consideration into the hobby. The wife and I recently got a hand-me-down scanner from her grandmother, which is a Uniden Bearcat BC148XLT-1, which is just a plain basic scanner, but works fairly well. I currently have it connected to an outdoor ground plane antenna. I also have a hand-me-down Bearcat IV crystal controlled radio, which is an antique now, LOL! I found some of the posts here already helpful, and especially shed some light on the SAME weather alert function on my Pro-94. Anyway I hope talk to some of you soon in the forums and happy to be a part of this new hobby (well, new to me anyway, hehe :lol
