I need someones help. I purchased this scanner, Arc software, a subscription to Radio Refernce and I still cannot use this thing properly! Where can I download canadian frequencies (databases) for this unit? Yellowknife would be good but I cannot even seem to find out how to enter enter the aviation frequencies without having to do it manually.

Any help would be appreciated.

PS I work with computer day in day out and am a Ham (VE8FH) but this stymies me!

Hi dplun2,

First of all welcome to the forum!! Downloading frequencies to your scanner for your area using the database on this site will not work. That is because there is no database info for Yellowknife what so ever. The only entry for NWT is a RCMP frequency for Inuvik, and that's all.

You will have to use your scanner to search and "close call" signals in your area, then program them in "manually" as you come across them. The ARC software you have will be good for backup, and quick editing of your systems.

You are the very first scanner user in your area, and are very valuable to this site in the sense that you can provide RR.com with information on trunking systems, and frequencies of interest in your area.

I implore you to provide what ever information you can. If there is something out there that you have trouble identifying (or any other problem), there are literally thousands of people here who know their stuff and they would be more than happy to help you.

Regards,
Richster.

Thanks ... I always hated being a pioneer ... the back gets sore after a while!

Now, perhaps you or some else can tell me how to download from the internet and upload to the scanner, software databases. As I said, the instructions are skimpy.

Thanks very much for your help.

Don,

You can use the online Industry Canada TAFL database to search for frequencies in your area. It will not list Police, military, and some government services, but you may find other interesting things. We could provide you with further details.

Hi Don,

Sorry for the slow reply, I've been busy busy lately. Even though I own a 246T I have never used the import feature from RR's databases. Actually I don't even think I can because I'm not a donating member. I should get off my wallet and send Lindsay some moolah. I've been here long enough.

DaveH raises an excellent resource that I forgot about. Read this link here:

I was helping a guy named sturk a while back on how to use IC's database. Damn handy!

Hi Don,

I actually did a search within a 25Km radius of Yellowknife, and one interesting thing is that it appears you have no 800Mhz trunking systems around.

Again IC's database only spits out non-protected frequencies, so there might be one out there in the 800Mhz band.

I did come across a possible trunking system in the 400Mhz though. It's registered to Danmax Communications LTD, and the numerous repeaters registered are identified as "YELLOWKNIFE NT. NUP, UHF TRUNKING ". I don't know if it's MOT, EDACS, or what but it looks like a TRS (trunked radio system) of some sort.

I won't post the results of my search because of two reasons. One is that it's just too damn long. Second is that you should perform a search for your area on your own. Once you figure out how the TAFL works and how to obtain locations in DDMMSS, you can search your hearts content for anywhere in Canada.

Once you program that Danmax TRS into your 246T and start identifying TG's, submit your results to the RR database. It would be an intersting addition!

Regards,
Richster.
