Hi,
I recently was given a Pro164 scanner and I am trying to educate myself by reading the forum, etc. I went to the local RS, but they really don't seem to know very much, even the basics. I asked about a power supply, and they said to bring the unit in. It's their unit and I would think they would be able to tell me what I need?? When I asked about it, they asked voltage and amps and I responded 9v 400 mA. Then the clerk fumbled around and never did seem to find one. I asked them if this scanner would allow me to listen to Akron Police, and they just shrugged. I was kind and thanked him for his time and didn't say what I was really thinking
I purchased the USB cable from Radio Shack, downloaded the demo of ARC300, and joined radioref. as a premium member so I can download files. The unit talks between the computer and the unit, and I can download and then inport files to the scanner. However, it doesn't seem to be allowing me to hear most of the channels.
I'm just trying to set this up, and right now it's trail and error without a clue of what most of this means. I just can't seem to find anyone to call or ask in this area. So, I'm wondering if someone in Summit County would be willing to do a little hand-holding to get me up and understanding beyond the basics, and then a few other questions I have. For reference, I have a RS Pro 2040 and it allows me to listen to air and railroads. I also have a tower antenna. I'm sure this is all "been there done that" with you experienced users.
PS: I started a thread in the RS area of the forum, but didn't get any responses, so I thought I would be more specific by asking for some help in this forum more specific to my area.
Thanks so much in advance for your time,
