also the reason i want to modify my freq's list is because when somone quits talking on those select few bands before it can scan 42 freq's i will miss what either the dispatcher or the officer is saying so i'd rather only have like 5 or so but im really not sure which i need to keep

I'll try to explain Trunking in a nutshell:
(note to everyone else, I am not really familar with EDACS, all I listen to is /\/\ so correct me if I am wrong)

I counted somewhere around 150 identified Talkgroups (or channels) on the OKC trunked radio system. Instead of having 150 frequencies for every one of the different talk groups, they use all share 32 frequencies. How is this possible? Not every one of these talk groups will be active at one time so.. One channel is dedicated as a "Control Channel". This is where a computer controller communicates with all radios on the system and directs them to other available channels as they become open. That is why you may hear one part of a conversation on one frequency and another part of it on another. So when an officer in Heffner division keys his radio, the controller tells all other radios in Heffner divison to switch to a certain freq. when he unkeys, all the radios automatically switch back to the control channel untill someone else keys up. This allows for more efficent use of less frequencies.

Currently, there is alot of OKC you cannot monitor due to the type of digital modulation being used called Provoice. Provoice cannot be decoded with any scanner currently on the market. You may also like to read Listening to Oklahoma City - the FAQ

Hope that helps a little!

All of them in one layer, either the Central or Outlying.
You will have to set your scanner to recognize them as an EDACS trunked system instead of conventional frequencies. What kind of scanner are you using?

That isn't a bad scanner and I believe that it will work on the DPS trunked radio system. It just isn't the newest greaest thing which is fine because most of ours aren't.

You might want to look up the OKC Area Scanner meeting. It is in Midwest City at a Chinese food place around 15th/AirDepot I believe. The get together is tonight at 7pm. The group is always willing to help people program radios and answer questions. There is usually 5-15 folks there that can give you all sorts of other info about what to monitor as well.

send a Private Message to mam1081 (he has the Texas Tech logo on here) and ask him. I believe that he has one.

If you can find his name on one of the threads click on it and then the option "send a private message to mam1081" will pop up and click on it.

Did you get it programed? Where do you live, update your user CP and add your location etc. If you need some help still, I work in Downtown OKC and could help on the weekend.

zacholley,

I use to own a 94 too and it sure is hard to program that thing with those tiny buttons. If you have a Pro-94B it is much easier, and preferred, to program via a computer. Do you know which model you have? If not click here:

http://myweb.cableone.net/marksscanners/94AB/94AB.html#94 or 94a

I'm not trying to trump the offers of help, but I live in NW OKC as well and I can meet you @ Rockwell and Expressway. Plus, I've been craving some Taco Bueno tacos. :)
