Happy Thanksgiving to all.
Am looking for some suggestions regarding purchasing a new multi band base antenna for my attic to run down to my BCD996XT.
Am researching/looking at the following:
MFJ ENTERPRISES MODEL MFJ-1866
DIAMOND D-130J
APEX 703G-DA
COMET DISCONE DS150S
HUSTLER DCX
DIAMOND D220 MINI DISCONE
CENTERFIRE DELUXE DISCONE ( NOW RUNNING A TWO FER SALE)
MP ANTENNA SUPER M CLASSIC BASE MULTI POLARIZED
My main monitoring focus is in the VHF high band, 150-174, UHF and UHF-T 450-470 and 470-512, and the 800 LMR 806-860 MHz, with very few agencies remaining on the 30-50 MHz band.
If anyone has any experience with any of the above and or suggestions, all feedback is positive and welcome. My attic is open and easy to work in as I have several antennas in the rafters at present.
Thanks in advance and 73's

Just about any discone antenna on the market will foot this bill. I have the Radio Shack discone in my attic and it is doing a fine job. Use LMR-400 for your feedline to minimise loss if you can afford it. Otherwise, just use the best coaxial cable that you can afford. Happy scanning!

Broken record here-I am quite happy with my D130J. UHF I get good copy up to 25 miles. 800 I get 10 miles. This is from western SF with lots of hills and mountains. As an example I get Foster City PD at 3 bars out of 6 on the BC785D at 20 miles.

Penetrating the roof from inside attic

From what I heard the MP antenna should receive signals better through the roof and outside obstructions with your in-attic installation.
I use the Super-M ULTRA Base antenna because it has even better specs outside the HAM bands, like 150-174 MHz:

I don't have any of the antennas specified, but can agree that almost any discone antenna will give about the same results. With that in mind, and being a 'frugal' (means cheap) person, I'd select one of the antennas that is inexpensive. No matter which you select you will still have the handicap of an 'inside' antenna. That 'handicap' includes less performance and a restriction on size.
Have fun.
