I have a BC245XLT, and would like to change the frequencies that were programmed into the scanner when SmartScanner Program worked. I live in Suffolk County, NY. The only ones that I would like to listen to are the Fire, EMS, Police frequencies in all 300 channels. How do you program this scanner. Help!!!!!!!!!! Please reply as soon as possible. Thanks for any help.
PS: I might even listen to NYC, and Nassau County frequencies also.
While the method detailed above works, if you have lots of frequencies and/or talkgroups to program, you might be better off using a program. The following Yahoo group has a folder called 'software' in its links section that has, as the name suggests, links to software and reviews. The Yahoo group for the 245 is:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BC245XLT/
The following packages support, to one degree or another, trunking as well as conventional programming on the 245;
- Scancat
- Scan Control
- Control Freq Jr (was called BC245eXLT at one time)
- Radio Manager/Trunk Manager (both the old and 2004 versions)
- Scancat Lite Plus
- Winscan
and while it doesn't program, IDTracker is still a very useful program to have.
Since you have an interest in the NYC area, there's a Yahoo group called ScanCom that might have programming files already set up that you could use. And don't forget the NY state forum here on RadioReference as another source of help
