You could use Gqrx and or CubicSDR, but one at a time. You should really read through the RadioReference Wiki for SDR.

If you later decide you want to monitor shortwave frequencies, take a look a the SDRPlay devices and definitely review the RR Wiki for appropriate antennas for the frequencies you wish to monitor.

* Additionally, if you are concerned about configuring you may want to purchase a regular receiver.

What exactly do you want to monitor??

I have used GQRX and CubicSDR on several Linux machines (old repurposed laptops) and they run my RTL-SDR Blog V.3 unit very well.

I've also bought an SDRPlay RSP1A and CubicSDR works really well with it for shortwave listening. Going to try different antennas to optimize reception.

GQRX has more settings to figure out, and in my opinion has a cleaner GUI.

CubicSDR is easy to use, but has some small text display elements, you can adjust them, but it's either too small or too large.....but I'm tinkering on a Pi 4 with a small screen. There is a user's guide posted on the CubicSDR website.

Get a proper antenna for what you want to monitor, also get some proper connectors to attach antenna to SDR.
