Well i got a BCD996T and have found out that it really is hard to teach an old dog new tricks, not impossible just takes longer.
I am using the ARC 996 software that should help. I am working on how i am going to lay out the new dynamic memory system. and would like to see some examples not to copy but to get started in the right direction.
if anyone could send me a copy of their fileing system i think it will help me greatly preferablely Tulsa and surrounding.
More than one would be nice as long as it will open in ARC. Thank you

You might find reading UPMan's article to be helpful in getting to understand this new DMA system. In addition, it's been noted time and again that Uniden's manuals are not particularly well written - there is a series of 'Easier to Read' manuals a gentleman has put up on his website. While it doesn't have one for the 996, it does for the 396 - most of that will be directly applicable to the 996.

The links for these can be found here...

Next to a scanner...
I can send you some USAD files (the Uniden freeware program), but don't have any for your program.

The way I set things up - I have a single quick-key for multiple systems (usually one per county in conventional areas - or one per city) in a state. This allows me to turn on and off states as I pass through them (with the GPS automatically locking and unlocking individual systems and sites). I'll set up metro areas on their own quick-key if I'm around that area a lot. This way, I can leave the metro key on and still scan the whole area without having the GPS lock.

How I have mine when in OK/TX areas:
1 = Local conventional stuff
2 = Metro Towns & other local
3 = All other counties in OK (conventional only)
4 = Most TX counties (conventional & trunked)
5 = Low power / iterant / special (whatever new stuff I'm researching)
6 = OK State Conventional (no GPS set-up)
7 = TX State Conventional (no GPS set-up)
8 = Air
9 = OK State Smartzone (GPS turns sites on and off as I'm in range)
0 = OKC EDACS
11-99 = Other various systems that I might want to listen to, but not on a regular basis.

Hope that helps a little...

Programming 996/396

As another example, I have my file in UASD, but FWIW.

I have mine set up with each agency assigned to a single system quick key and then each department is assigned a group quick key which is further broken down into radio channels. This format is consistent throughout the systems. Below is an example of how it is set up and an example of what you might find in each system.

SYSTEM Quick Key 1 Midwest City

Group Quick Key 1 Fire
1 MCFD Dispatch
2 Fireground, etc
Group Quick Key 2 Police
1 MCPD Dispatch
2 MCPC CH 2, etc
Group Quick Key 3 Public Works
Group Quick Key 4 EMS
1 MWC Ambulance
Group Quick Key 5 ---------
Group Quick Key 6 Emergency Management
Group Quick Key 7 ---------
Group Quick Key 8 ---------
Group Quick Key 0 Interoperability

The DPS statewide system is configured similarly

SYSTEM Quick Key 10 OK DPS OKC

Group Quick Key 1 Fire
1 Moore FD CH 1
2 Village/NH FD, etc
Group Quick Key 2 Police
1 Moore PD CH 1
2 Moore PD CH 2, etc
Group Quick Key 3 Highway Patrol
1 Troop A AM1
2 Troop A AM2, etc
Group Quick Key 4 EMS
1 Mediflight
2 Lifeflight
3 EMSA 8W OKC
4 EMSA Encrypted (Locked Out), etc
Group Quick Key 5 ---------
Group Quick Key 6 Emergency Management
1 SEMA 1
2 Moore EM 1,etc
Group Quick Key 7 Mutual Aid
1 SMA 1A
2 RMA CN 2A,etc
Group Quick Key 8 Corrections
1 Mabel Basset
Group Quick Key 0 Interoperability
1 Norman, OK PD
2 Edmond EM

SYSTEM Quick Key 11 OK DPS Norman

Group Quick Key 1 Fire
1 Moore FD CH 1
Etc.

Everyone will program their radio differently because each person listens differently. With the complexity of today’s radios and systems, I found that it is important to think the eventual format through and strive for consistency between systems and between scanners to the greatest extent possible so that you spend more time listening an less time figuring out where a particular agency or frequency is.

Best of luck and enjoy your new radio.:)
