Hello, I’m new to owning a scanner, I grew up with one in my house that my grandfather owned, he sadly passed on awhile ago and I inherited what I believe (from what I’ve been able to find online) is a Uniden BCT8 recently. There are a couple frequencies that come through that he had stored prior to his passing but one of them is always static, I am not sure how to fix it being the only person who knew how to operate it properly is now gone.

My question is how do I change a frequency for the “channels”? (I’m not sure if that is what they are called) #1&3 come through clearly but 2 is the staticky one and I believe that is due to the little note he had written with channels and their frequencies that #2 is not stored as to what he had written down. The stored frequency is suppose to be the city police dispatch and i can get it to come through on my phone through a website and the scanner is static at the same time so that is how I have determined what it’s suppose to be but again the decimals that come through on the scammer are different than what he had written down. I hope all of that makes sense. If I need to clarify anything just let me know and I’ll try my best.

If I could get some direction on how to change the decimals that are stored as #2 to what he has written down without erasing any other stored information I would greatly appreciate it more than I can express, thank you in advance.

Reading the manual, as Tvengr has noted is the first step. It will tell you if the scanner is capable of receiving whatever frequency you want to add/substitute, its capabilities, etc. That read will invariably cause you to have more questions. Expect it but don’t get frustrated. Just reply back here and include where you want to operate the scanner (town/city/state AND COUNTY) and what frequencies you are interested in programming. The guys here will guide you on your way. And you’ll have that BCT8 up and running in no time!

I don't think a BCT8 is even P25 capable.
Your radio is not capable of picking-up any of the P25 items below.
Also, Police Operations are encrypted (lower case e means part time encryption - nobody can listen to them if they are).

That just leaves any of the FMN entries below.
