Ok, maybe this is a silly question, but I'm getting a little confused.

With all these cities coming online with ICIS, what is the purpose? If Burbank is in pursuit of a vehicle and they make it all the way to Pomona on the 210, are their radios going to work through the Pomona Cell and get patched back to Burbank? That seems doubtful since they have different frequencies. It doesn't appear that they system will work as an interagency radio system, so what is the purpose? Or will all cities work through the other cities' cells because they are all on ICIS, just using different talkgroups?

The system is a smartzone network, all of the sites are programmed in to the subscriber radios. In most cases they switch to the site with the strongest signal. Yes burbank chasing someone EB 210 would switch to the glendale site then to the Pomona site once they got farther east. This would all be transparent to the user and dispatcher. This is the reason people in glendale will sometimes here Pomona units on the glendale site. A subscriber radio has affiliated with the gledale site, the glendale site will then repeat pomona until the subscriber unaffiliates.

Thanks for clearing that up. I suppose it would also be "transparent" to myself listening to the scanner via the Burbank Cell.

Thats what makes the system so "Smart".

Theoretically, every city in LA County could have handheld service to just about every inch of the county if everyone threw their hats into the ICIS ring. As it is now, a podunk town like Pomona can chase someone to the SFV and chase them on foot and still have P25 clarity from their handheld.

Really is space age compared to 20 years ago...
