I am in south central IL and want to listen to district 12, it says they are on star com21 project 25 phase ll , will a radio shack pro-197 or a GRE psr600 pick them up ? Our local depts are still analog so I am sure these would be fine for them.

Yes. The only site that is currently Phase II is 149, which is near Chicago. Every other site statewide is Phase I and you can get them on the Pro 197 or PSR600 or any other P25 scanner.
Thanks for the reply awesomeman92, it has been along time since I have listened to my scanner but I am wanting to get back into it, I Am wanting to upgrade my antenna and my old bearcat scanner , just trying to make the right decision. Things seem to have changed in the last 7 to 8 years.
yes. we're in Effingham several times a year and while there I monitor the ISP on my rat shack 106 and 197.

If your going with an out side antenna the signal loss on 700/800 is high with RG58 coax. When I used to listen to a lot of VHF Hi & Lo my antenna on a 35' tower worked great. Now that ISP is on SC21 I do better with my pull up indoor antenna than my outside antenna. If you go with an outside antenna it's worth the money to get the right coax.
What is the right coax and what antenna would anyone recommend, I am wanting to listen to a private company about 35 miles away also.
One antenna I use on the tower and in attic is the RS 20-175? 25-1.3 GRND Plane and all my coax is LMR400, its the only coax that works well on 700/800 Starcom for ME.....I do agree , using the pullup in house if your near the tower in question will defeat the "multisite" problem.....
Ok I had to take a little detour on my plans of upgrading scanners but I am back on track now, have there been any new scanners out since last August or what does everyone suggest and say I have a budget of up to $800.00
Uniden has come out with two new scanners: BCD436HP (portable) and BCD536HP (moble/base). These have just hit the streets.
Both of these will handle P25 Phase II systems. I listen to the New Albany Indiana P25 Phase II system on my 536 and am quite happy with it.

Better read the tons of postings to get one over ser:2600 that the issues were fixed, also there is a new firmware out for it.....
Is the serial number on the outside of the box? Or how do you check the ser number before you buy?
Im sorry I don't own one but if u order one from a distributor I would make sure he has the new stock that has had the head phone problem corrected and still u will need to put in the latest just released firmware and more fixes are coming .....
Ok this may be a silly question but with the BDC 536 will the zip code programing even find private businesses, not just fire and police?
