I am unable to get this program to work. I've been successful in the past in getting the DOS version working (talkgroupmonitor) with SimpleCast. Since I'm looking for a free solution I decided to try Oddcast instead. So far everything is working like a champ except alpha tagging.

I set the scanner on COM1 and enable it in the program but nothing happens. The program will update the "Scanning..." text, but that's it. No alpha tags are being sent and according to the docs, I do not need to run Serproxy for it to work.

The docs did not mention anything about configuring Oddcast for meta data. Here is my current Meta screen in Oddcast. I have not changed a thing and I think this might be what is messing it up. Do I need to change anything in the box below????

Here is my config settings in the Metadata program. Nothing ever shows up in the recieving window except for "opening COM1"

And here is my titles.txt file I am using for testing. It just has SDPD in it since its very active for me to test with.

It worked fine using SimpleCast and the Serproxy/talkgroupmonitor combination so I know the communications cable is working.

Any ideas as to why this is not working now?
I'd like to have alpha tags for my San Diego PD/FD/RCS feed using Oddcast.

Thanks

I use it with BC780, but I think the same issues will crop up.
Based on the documentation that arrived with it, I used the same naming scheme, ID S xxxx

I realized that I should watch the window in the program to see what was coming through. I saw text coming to the window in the form of "CDxxx". As I saw the text, I saw looked on the scanner, and mapped the channels using that naming convention, and it worked.

I also had mixed results when I changed the "Unknown" options. I keep it on "SC" and I get an "OK" return after it opens COM port. This seems to get the best results.

Something that may help in trouble shooting is Free Serial Port Monitor ( http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Programming/Misc__Programming_Tools/Free_Serial_Port_Monitor.html )

Thanks for the help. I set Unknown to SC and it displayed results, but no alpha tags. Never could get it to work right so I just removed the software and I'm back to the DOS version of the software.

I did - and I apologize, but I've been busy with a new job, so I haven't had time to watch all the possible places people might be asking for help.

The 245 version of the program should work with the [ID S <frequency or TGID>, text you want streamed] format. Brandon, your file looks as if it should work. All I can suggest, as a first try, is to connect to the scanner with Hyperterminal (or the dumb terminal program of your choice) and see if what the scanner says is what you have in the file. I know of at least one BC246 that doesn't seem to know how to speak properly.

Oh, and the "Unknown" part sort of works - streaming audio through Icecast is precarious at best, and when I throw things like the unknown text at it, it seems to be more out of sync than it usually is.

Al,
Thanks for the tips. I will give it another try this weekend. I upgraded my version of Icecast which seems to perform much better. Right now my alpha tags are 100% syncronized with the audio by 1/2 second.
Unfortunately I cannot disconnect the scanner cable since it's about 90 miles from me :) I just VNC into the machine to make any changes but all physical connections can't be done unless I'm at the radio.

Thx again.
