• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm looking to buy an XPR5550e UHF1 40W for GMRS and future 70cm HAM use. Based on what I've read, anyone can now sign up for a Moto account and get access to CPS and apply for the Wideband entitlement to activate widemand on the channels. I'm getting a bit lost as far as coedplug versions and sellers specifying what the last version of CPS that was it was programmed with, firmware versions, etc. Can someone either point me to a thread or give me a basic explanation on these questions to help me make sure I get the right radio?

1. Is it true, can anyone now get CPS for free from Moto now and if so where do I go to sign up?

2. Any idea once I have a moto account, where I apply for a wideband entitlement?

3. Once I get the entitlement, can I set any programmed channel on any radio to WB?

4. Is there and reason to worry about what codeplug version is on the radio now or what version of CPS was used ot program it? If it does matter can you explain why?

Thank you very much for the help!! Jason

1. Yes. MyView There will be a register link eventually on the page with the super long URL it takes you to.

2. Don't recall, but it should be under Entitlements. You usually have to watch a training video or such first, then everything after that is done manually on their side. Not sure if that's still the case. You can always open a support ticket with /\/\ or call them once you get your account set up.

3. Yes

4. No, not really. Most of those radios should be new enough to be read and programmed by the latest CPS.

I'll add to alcahuete's reply:

Where this was usually an issue is people downloading bootleg CPS/RSS off the dark corners of the web, and being stuck with whatever old version was out there. With the older bootleg software, they were often unable to program the radios that had been touched with new/up to date software.

If you are getting legit software direct from Motorola, it'll be the latest versions, so this won't be an issue.

Thanks for all the help! I applied for a Business account for personal/Amateur Radio use (supposedly that's what you have to do) so now I wait for the account review I guess.
