I am new to the area, yes introduced myself in the roll call area, and I do not understand how to monitor the N.M. state police. Do I need to program two scanners and run them at the same time, or is there an easier way that I'm not seeing? Thanks in advance.

Listening to NMSP is a bit tricky! Personally, I've programmed all of the frequencies listed in the database into my scanners. In order to actually hear the officer, he/she has to be super close. They utilize a Vehicle Repeater System (VRS 460.15) which transmits their handhelds and mobiles (I think mobiles) to this VRS then out to the dispatcher. It's very low powered, around 2 or so watts. Hope this helps! Happy listening!

NMSP uses a half duplex system. That is the base transmits on one freq and the mobiles transmit on another. i..e. NMSP district 5 base transmits on 155.520Mhz the officers transmit to the base on 155.535Mhz. When they are out of their vehicles their portables transmit on 460.15Mhz to their vehicles the vehicle then transmits on 155.535Mhz to the base. If you program both sides base and mobile you will receive both sides if you are within the range of the mobile.
Good luck
