The best way is to get Win97 from Starsoft the usb cable from Radio Shack and the Database here on RR. You will save yourself a lot of headaches and make using the 97 a pleasure.
I couldn't understand the manual either.

make sure you have the bank mode set to edacs, and each channel set to edacs ... and also that you have the frequencies in the correct LCN order, bc it does matter ... but the bank mode being set to edacs was what tripped me up at first ... good luck :)

check out this link too

what he said ... those numbers next to the frequencies in the database are important ... they are the logical channel numbers ... for the pro97 they have to match the channel number they are in .... i.e. LCN01 needs to be in 101 (if you are using bank 1) ... also make sure the bank mode is set to ED ... check the wiki for some good reading, like trunking, edacs, and LCN ... also the link I posted before for the easy to read pro97 manual has great info and help ... good luck :)
