• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I’m trying to get two-tone sequential (aka: Quik Call) paging working on a VHF XPR-7550. This will be used on a receive only channel to get notified when my local fire department gets a call. I have thus far been unsuccessful.

Here is what I’ve done thus far:

I obtained the tones from someone who has access to the information on the inside. I’ve verified that they’re correct in three ways:

Works fine on a Uniden scanner which supports fire tone out.
Works fine on a Raspberry Pi running TwoToneDecode to drop mp3 toneout emails.
Works fine on an Anytone radio.

My CPS Settings (11.2):

Signalling Systems:
Call Alert Encode is Yes, Sel Call Encode is Yes, Sel Call Tone/ID is Always, Sel Call Hang Time (ms) is 4000, Auto Reset Timer (sec) is 10.

Quik-Call II:
Call Type: Sel Call
Call Format: A-B
Tone A Freq: 977.2
Tone B Freq: 384.6
Tone C Freq: None
Tone D Freq: None
Auto Reset Timer Type: Manual
Sidetone: Short
Pretime (ms): 0
Long Tone Duration (sec): 9
Limited Patience Timer (sec): 1

(note: I’ve played quite a bit with the pretime setting without success)

Channel Setting:
Bandwidth: 12.5kHz
Scanlist: None
Squelch: Normal
Voice Emphasis: None
Option Board: No
Audio Enhancement: None
Channel Inhibit: No
Scrambling Enable: No
Rx Only: Yes
Rx Freq: 154.385000
Squelch Type: CSQ
Signalling System: Quik-Call II Company 20
Ref Frequency: Default
Signalling Squelch: AND

(note: I’ve eliminated PL decode as a troubleshooting step as this channel does have PL which doesn’t drop during tone outs). I’ve also played with Voice Emphasis without success)

As a test, I copied the channel and changed the frequency to a 2m ham simplex channel (with all other settings, including the Quik-Call profile the same). My Anytone radio can send two-tone, so I programmed it up. It works perfectly every time.

All I can come up with is a timing issue… The County may be using non-standard (shortened) tones to improve dispatch time. Any thoughts? Firmware is 2.40.02
