Wondering if folks would be willing to give me some direction on the best settings for monitoring the railroad band with RTLSDR-Airband?
I'm using the program to replace my Kenwood TK-7180, and while I don't expect the same quality of audio out of a SDR, I think I could probably improve what I have now with better settings. Any advice would be appreciated.
Currently I am monitoring the following frequencies in multichannel mode:
161.385
161.220 (Ch2 in attached clip)
161.100 (Ch1 in attached clip)
160.665
I have the center frequency set to 161.025, NFM modulation enabled, and the gain is currently at 42. I am using manual squelch for each frequency, because the automatic squelch would lower too far during periods of extended silence and would eventually start picking up spikes in the noise floor. Late at night 161.100 would get some NOAA bleed too.
All other settings are set to the defaults. Using the wiki, I experimented with adjusting the sample rate and FFT size but ended up making things worse with everything that I tried.
Hopefully with all of the advanced settings dialed in correctly I can get some improvement in audio quality. Audio clips from two of the channels are attached as a zip.
Thanks in advance!
