I am looking for a base type scanner for air/mil air, this will be its primary use. I am not familiar at all with air so I don't want to fork out alot of dough and not enjoy it. I live fairly close to Capital City Airport in lansing and listen to some transmissions on my 396 but I would like something else so I am not tieing up the 396. Can someone please point me in a good direction to look on ebay for one in the 100 dollar range. Thank you...

I'm using the BC780-XLT to monitor Selfridge Air Base. The PRO-2052 works very well also, for UHF MilAir, and is capable of doing VHF MilAir with a modification.

And for a new radio - the PRO97 and 2055 are both supposed to be hot milair performers. However, note that these are GRE radios, so the only computer ops supported are up and downloads - they cannot be controlled.
We have a wiki page devoted to the 780, 97 and 2055 if you're interested. Just click on the word 'Wiki' in the blue toolbar and go down about 1/2 way. Select 'Uniden Scanners' for the 780, or 'Radio Shack Scanners' for the PRO97/2055. You'll be presented with a list of scanners to choose.
The 2006 is very hard to find; if you find one, particularly mod'ed or with the Optoscan board, snatch it up. There's some software for those boards, and the 2006 was famous for being one of the most modified scanners ever. It's a very well respected performer.
