I am new to the scanner world and I bought one last night off of a guy. I wasn't home so he showed the wife that it worked for a second. My question is how do I hear the Lower Sackville Police or any police for that matter. My channel 5 is set to 153.8900.
The guy said he set it up for me so police would be on channel 4 & 5 but I don't hear a thing.

Any help will do me wonders and I hope this is the right section.

Sorry to tell you this, but the Pro-29 will not pick up the Lower Sackville Police. They use what is called
"digital" radio. The Pro-29 will only pick up "Analog" radios. It will pick up some of the smaller town police
forces, as long as the correct frequency is entered. FYI the 153.890Mhz is used by the Stellarton Police,
out of range from Sackville. However; it is used as a paging frequency for HRM Fire.

The web address below is an site with an on-line owners manuel for you scanner.

Matt, the seller of this was either misleading you to put it mildly, or he is someone who hasn't used the scanner or any scanner for a long time and is simply out of date like the scanner! Maybe the mentioned channels 4 and 5 are the old frequencies used before around 2000. Check them and we can tell you. Back then 153.89 was the paging and working frequency for the Waverley/Fall River/Wellington/Fletchers Lake fire departments It would be interesting to know when the PRO-29 came out, and also what other frequencies are programmed into it. As Stephen VE1SEF said it is of no use now for picking up any police services in the Halifax area, and almost as bad for the fire services (so bad that you won't want to do it). Still good for airplanes and ships and few other specialty things and as well for most fire and town police (not RCMP) outside HRM. I hope you didnt have to pay a lot.
