Anyone point me in the right direction please
I was recently presented with a realistic pro 2004 in great condition but with a couple of little issues.
The main issue was the screen going blank when the key pad was depressed.

I serviced the radio cleaning all the circuit boards etc and checking joints and sorted out what I believe was the issues and found the keypad was is nowworking as it should with all keys working however it seems to have developed a new issue.

So now when set to program the rig stops on a channel as it should and allows me to input a frequency however when i put the frequency in i get an error message on the screen.

Any one know what the issue or fault is that is causing this and how its fixed. I have reset the radio several times but still getting the same issue

any help would be appreciated

2004 or 2006 ?

To program a frequency into a channel you need to press Program key then enter the frequency using the number keys example 506.7125 (don't forget the Dot key) then hit the Enter Key. If it says error you probably entering a frequency out of range of the scanner.

"The main issue was the screen going blank when the key pad was depressed."
I've just repaired a 2004 that had the very same symptom. Turned out to be a trace near one of the main filter capacitors that had leaked, causing an invisible open circuit in the battery back-up circuit.
