And thanks for being so vague, first we need to know where you are to give you information pertinent to your location, easiest by far is hooking up scanner to windows/PC with software free or otherwise, then look in database for your area, try conventional (non trunked systems first ie , taxis , buses, airplanes trains etc, then move onto trunking after a few days, read user manual's , read & read some more.
As long as you are in range of a major metropolis , you should be able to hear something , if you are further away in a rural setting, you will need an antenna (outdoors) more suitable for picking up from afar.
gone are the days of memory channels 1-100 etc, program in first freq etc, there is undeniably a huge learning curve on this scanner, but alas you should not be lost, we can help you just gotta give us more info.

S.E. sask., it cam with a software to use the key pad via the computor, one can load files to and from the scanner with the cable supplied, what a change is right, thanks for now.

Wow 100 ' up that is great should be able to pick up Alberta in the west and Man east of you, but disk supplied with scanner is not per se programming software, I am refering to Butel , ARC500 or

try first maybe near bye airport or taxi company see what you can hear, if you want to be so bold and hear your local P25 Sask system, you can try listening for the control channels in your area, Gravelbourg is 138.975, Laflech is 139.065, Weyburn's I cant find but you can be the first if that is where you are, if you figure out how to scan between say 138 mhz & 142 mhz you could listen for the active control channels for you area, that means you are set to hear trunked systems once programmed into scanner properly

to look up local freqs for you area, co-ops, farms whatever that way you can get the radio started
