• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I'm using Win10 and it worked without any special software. Can't say for XP....

When you install the PPS software, make sure the radio IS NOT connected to the computer. This is a been there done that lesson.

The driver to connect did not install while the radio was connected. I had to disconnect, uninstall, reinstall, and then it all started working. This was with a Windoze 10 machine. Even in XP drivers do not install if the unit to be driven is connected. Simple Windoze rule that I forgot. :(

No that did not happen as I downloaded the updated software and the radio was not connected. I have programmed these systems three times, original, reprogrammed and reprogrammed again. Now some of the Lake county talkgroups come in once in awhile. Triple checked settings all three times. The first time I programmed the speaker icon with the x and I had to push the top button on the side to hear the transmissions. I did find out that one has to be on duty for the icon not to show with the x.Will try to program again and put it in another zone. Again thanks all for the help.

Unication Dave help

Recently purchased a G4 programming went well with some good results. The problem I'm having is on our STARCOM 21 trunked system. I am monitoring towers 115 Lake county and 146 McHenry county. The McHenry talk groups will pick up on the G4 at times. Uniden scanner picks up the talk groups that are silent on the McHenry talk groups. I have reprogrammed from scratch several times and the same result. Double and triple check all settings and still same result. Everything else programmed picks up transmissions. HELP!!! Thanks.

Firmware currently displaying Vo.93-0.171-R00, which I assume is the most updated.

Lake County is showing lots of "T" (P25 Phase 2) potential that the G4 won't receive (but the Uniden will). Could that be the problem?

McHenry doesn't show "T" but that doesn't necessarily mean they aren't using Phase 2....(dunno, I'm not there).

What is the Uniden displaying when it receives the talkgroups in question (that the G4 is not)? P25? PT0, PT1?

Note: I'm also betting that even those talkgroups marked "DE" (digital encrypted) are really supposed to be "TE" (digital PHASE 2 encrypted) - not that it matters too much given they are encrypted....

The system is Phase II. Your Uniden is most likely picking up PII and the G4 is only picking up PI.

P25 is phase 1 or 2. There are also some sites that carry phase 1 and 2 traffic as I found out where I live.

Sorry to hear you are having issues. David has been pretty low key almost absent since before the holidays.

If what we've provided (and asking to help confirm the issue - which David would need also) won't help you, I can only recommend that you might want to contact the vendor from which you purchased your radio for assistance.

Calm down and take a deep breath. I think you are not getting the answers you want to hear but what we have told you is what it is. The only reason you are picking up a talk group on your other radio and not the g4 is either you programmed the g4 wrong or the particular talk group is phase 2. Please provide the talkgroup that is only being heard on your other radio and not the g4. That may help narrow it down.
