Help!

Can I pay someone a minimal amount to program my Uniden BCD996P2 w/ local codes. It was in use somewhere in Alabama before acquired it. I live on a disability stipend and sure would enjoy having a scanner to listen to. My mom had on often in my childhood.

if it is a trunked system you would only see the talkgroup numbers, but you can listen.
and even add names later.

You’ll probably have to buy and install the software that Scanner Master uses also. Additional cost. Maybe not since you mail in entire scanner.

Hope you acquired a programming cable with your 996p2. Why not put said unnamed "minimal amount" towards a Radioreference premium subscription and use Proscan to program what you need? You get a 30 day free trial you can use for programming then $50.00 gets you two license activations & unlimited app updates

Are you in Vicksburg or Wicksburg? I cannot find a Vicksburg Alabama. If Wicksburg, Houston County uses a NXDN system for which you would need the NXDN paid upgrade for your scanner. If you are in Houston County, I can give you the steps to determine if your scanner already has the upgrade enabled..

Please verify that you are in Vicksburg in Warren County, Mississippi. You posted your thread in the Alabama forum. If you are indeed in Mississippi, you don't need the NXDN upgrade. I will be happy to create a programming file for you. If you download and install the free FreeSCAN programming software, I can attach the file for you to program the scanner. Freescan download website

If you are in Vicksburg, the only agency encrypted is Vicksburg PD. Aso the area is simulcast, so god luck with that scanner working here.

I just got off the phone with @COONTRAX and found out he has no antenna and no programming cable, and doesn't have a pc to program the scanner. I have sent him links to order an antenna and a cable. And am hoping that @slhbeard or someone in the Vicksburg, MS area can lend him a hand.

I created a file for Vicksburg but will do him no good till he gets around a PC.

Vicksburg pd isn't encrypted, just tac channels and ncic

Hate to tell you, but they have all their channels encrypted. This just recently happened. Hoping when the next election, which happens this year will change it back. All Vicksburg PD channels are encrypted. Vicksburg Fire, Ambulance, Warren SO, and Volunteer Fire are in the clear. Every now and the, they slip up and talk in the clear. It is a beef between the Police Chief and the news media that caused this.

That's why Pearl fd went to encryption, I will make sure I listen more closely. I was there Friday and copied them. They complained about money but choose to pay for encrypted, weird
