Anybody who has had the PRO 96 CPU upgrade. Please let me know your experience.

I just sent mine in and was quoted $49.00 by the RS person who is responsible for sending it out to get the upgrade. Today (1/11/2007) I get a call from the service center telling me they want $298.99 for the upgrade. Were, along the line, did $249 get attached to this $49 I was quoted to begin with? GOT ME! Soooo I called the gal who sent it out and she tells me that everything is taken care of and that it was only going to cost $49 minus the $20 I gave her the day I sent it in. Seems to me that either RS or the service center is trying to screw people on this upgrade. I have contacted the district manager (WORTHLESS) who wants nothing to do with this, and she tells me that its out of her control on what the service center charges. This distric manager then passes the buck, so to speak, by giving me the 1-800-THESHACK number and tells me that they would be able to help me with this matter. WRONG. So I call them and they tell me the same thing. I finally call back the gal I initially took it to, and she looks it up in the computer, and says it is getting fixed and the cost is AGAIN $49.00 minus the $20.00 it took to send it out. She tells me that she's taking care of it and it will be fixed. I also had her clarify that it was indeed in Fort Worth, TX, and she said yes. When I talked to those worthless people at 1-800-THESHACK, they said my radio was in Utah. So I have no idea were my radio is at, or if I'll ever see it again. Will it actually be mine that I sent out when they call me to pick it up? Who knows anymore with Radio Shack! I have come to the conclusion with RS that I'll never purchase anything from them again. After paying $600.00 for a radio (that includes the extended service plan) and this is the best they can do for you. I have a felling if RS keeps this up and enough people get tired of it, as I have, there will be no RS anymore.

The only thing Radio Shack is good for is RC cars and batteries. I quit going to RS a long time ago. Anything I want or need I can get from a real electronics store.

I'm sorry about your situation and it stinks that it had to come to this before you realized Radio Shack really doesn't care about it's customers (unless you're buying a cell phone).

Yup, as you can tell I'm not to happy about it. So for anyone who is thinking of getting the CPU ugrade, better think again. I feel what has happened is after a few upgardes to customers radios. The service people (basically Radio Shack) has figured they could make more money off people who own some of the first Pro96 radios by charging them for the Logic PC board and the labor. This is after the fact that they, being Radio Shack, realize that the initial board that came in the first radios was no good in certain areas and instead of eating their mistake, Radio Shack would rather screw the customer for the cost of the new board. After this experience with them I'll never buy anything form them again, and I mean anything. Not even batteries. Heck you can go to Wally World and get batteries cheaper than what Radio Shack sells them for. As far as their customer service, IT SUCKS, instead of being honest with the customer, they send you on an endless loop of "YOU GOTTA CALL THIS NUMBER 1-800-YOU GOT SCREWED" were nobody nows nothing about nothing. Can't even get a straight answer out of the Distric manager. I've been thinking about turning this over to the local News crew here that handles crooked business people like this.

Yeah this did it for me. I won't even buy batteries from Radio Shack let alone an RC car. After paying $600.00 for a radio and thats the best they can do is send me in an endless loop of you gotta call 1-800-YOU GOT SCREWED were every person you talk to there nows nothing about nothing. Heck those people probably have to be reminded everyday, of what their name is and what they're SUPPOSED to be doing there. I just hope people look at this and really give it some thought before they buy. I know in the past that I have recommended the Pro 96 to people, but after this horrible experience I highly advise them to go for the UNIDEN. It may cost a few more bucks, but I am yet to see anyone who has had a bad experience with UNIDEN products other than being a complex radio. SO THE MORAL TO THE STORY IS, DO NOT, AND I MEAN DO NOT, BUY RADIO SHACK PRODUCTS UNLESS YOU CAN AFFORD TO SPEND THE TIME GOING ROUND AND ROUND WITH PEOPLE WHO DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU. ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS YOUR MONEY.
