• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

What are you buying and how much is it? There was a dealer selling nice XTL1500s 450-520 split for $99, great deal for ham, GMRS, P25 cop stuff, etc. You would need a power cable and mic but that stuff is everywhere. I have a couple of those and they program and work fine down to 440 using hex edited CPS.

The $99 price was a few weeks ago when they were over stocked, now the same radio is $150. Still a great radio at that price.

I have a number of 450-512 XTL radios and with the So Cal 440-445 tx, 445-450 rx the radios meet specs fine. I do have a pair of XTL1500s programmed as a repeater and those work fine with the opposite split.

Yup. I did some MTS2000's years ago and they were fine down to 440. I'm not sure I'd expect much more than that, though. Sometimes new guys are looking for big changes, like making 800MHz radios work on the 900MHz ham bands...

Radios have factory frequency limits like 450-512MHz. You would fire up a hex editor, translate 450.0000MHz to hex (got to get the number of zeros right) then go looking for that in the pat port program. Then you use the hex editor to see what 440.0000 is in hex and replace the hex for 450.0000 with the one for 440.0000. At leas that is the basic idea.

You can use the 900 example to practice then you can actually create a code plug for a 900 radio and see if it allows the new out of band range so you know you got the steps right. I have seen examples for the 440 amateur band, just have to look for it.
I read that hex editing Pat-Port, there are a couple/few places that have to be changed. A program like Hexedit pro can search and find all these occurances. Don't recall if the final edit needs the checsum corrected. I think also 10 MHz is about the limit they will go.
I have just never gone that route, as there are XTL radios that cover the amateur bands.

After your first warning back in the summer for asking for copyrighted software on the forum, one would have thought you would have known better. Guess not.
