• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

What specific error are you getting? Have you set TX Deviation (Bandwidth) to the correct value to accept the channel frequency
that you're trying to input into the Zone Channel Assignment?

If the above are correct, then what is the model number of your XTL2500? Enter service mode and verify the model number reported
against the model number on the tag to be sure they match and report back.

That explaines it. You have an S-Split (470-520 MHz) radio that's going to take some work to get it tuned down into the 440 Ham band
in additon to editing band limits. Good Luck!

There are very "frequency specific" alignment points unique to the S-Split and Q-Split radios. My best advice is to put your S-Split radio
up for sale as it may have value to someone living in a country that has UHF CB (477 MHz) and look around for a good Q-Split model
that will work perfectly well in the 440 MHz ham band.

Not too sure Im satisfied with that. I'm keeping the radio, it was purchased for my GMRS system. Just would be a bonus if Ham was on it too. I,m sure I Will be getting the lower split in time. Just getting into xtl2500 and 5000s, thanks to a friend of mine. They are overkill for my GMRS, but Great for VHF . Local first responders bussiness, Ham and such.

You shouldn't have too many issues once you get the CPS hacked to allow frequencies lower than 450MHz. I know several people that find them adequate for ham usage.

Sensitivity and power output will drop off farther out of band but for most ham repeater work, you should be fine.

There was a program floating around called cpsoob. It provided a nice GUI front end for editing both ASTRO and ASTRO25 band limits. I don't have it anymore, but maybe a Google search will turn it up?
