Just popping in to see what's the latest. Six years ago, I retired as a Utah deputy, and during my time, I was our agency's radio liaison with UCA (or UCAN) for both departments I worked for. Recently, I bought a USB SDR (Software-Defined Radio) unit, and it's super cool! I'm really enjoying it. Besides that, my main focus is scanning the SPOK Pagers with PDW, using a huge filter list to only see the interesting stuff. I do this on my Toughbook, which also has a RadioShack Pro93 on the back, along with a DIY data slicer with RS232 I made back in 2002 when I joined.
I've heard about the new changes being made to the 700 system, and it's super interesting. I am currently in Box Elder, so I still get the county on 155.5875Mhz, which is awesome. I use my tiny UV9R to listen to it. All my scanners are old – Pro-433 in my car and various analog handhelds. I've never had a digital scanner. The plan is to get another USB unit and trunk it, even after the switch. It will be decrypted soon.
I also planning on expanding the radio I pick up in my car. I may add an antenna. Inside I have a small 800MHz unit.
