Hello,

Have a WinRadio Excalibur SDR receiver.

Can anyone suggest any free, or inexpensive, HF Acars decoders ?
(I am familiar with Wacars)

Same question for Selcal ?

Thanks,
Bob

While the page I maintain on Mike Chace-Ortiz's site has at least 2 packages that will handle HFDL, I don't have anything on selcalls, I don't think. See my sig

The problem you're going to have is trying to feed the audio into the decoder. I *think* that you need some sort of virtual device to do it, unless there is something that is native to WinRadio that can do it (always possible)

Aah - I see - two different posts on the same subject.

PCHFDL is the programme you need but not sure if it's been tested on Windoze 7 - mine works well on XPv3 with WinRadio g303e and the virtual sound card - see your other post.

Decode Selcal? Never tried it or felt the need. I wonder if a DTMF decoder would do it. Somewhere there should be a list of the tones and their allocated letters. Not so long ago they only went up to H as they had to be fairly well spaced as the Motorola decoder in the aircraft just used mechanical reeds as the frequency detector - bit like a harmonica reed - but now it's done in software and they have fitted far more tones in the audio bandwidth.

Thinking some more - a DTMF decoder only gives the telephone numbers so that won't work!
