Good afternoon. We just got an SDS100. We can hear Waco, Ellis Co etc. We search by zip code. We cannot hear anything from Hill County or Hillsboro. Radio reference does not show them encrypted and do say they are P25. Anything you can think of?

I'm obviously out of range, and unable to be of direct help.

Are you trying to monitor their trunked system? Or the conventional channels on the the Hill County web page.

Looking at the trunked system's page, it appears that all law enforcement talkgroups for the county, Hillsboro, & Whitney are encrypted.

Fire & EMS are not flagged as encrypted, but as noted, I'm too far away to check oersonally.

Their operations are on the trunked system linked above. Hill County SO and Hillsboro PD are encrypted as shown in the db.

We search by zip code.
As you "just got" your SDS100, and should have recently installed Sentinel, the databases are almost certainly well out if date. Update the main database in Sentinel, then write that to the scanner. Once you do that, you should start seeing the trunked system show up if you are scanning by using location control. That's not going to get around encryption on the law enforcement talkgroups, but you should at least start getting Fire & EMS.

All Hillsboro, Hill County, and Whitney law enforcement channels are fully encrypted on the trunked system. Fire/EMS are in the clear though.
