Yesterday News 12 reported that the victim may have been shot before the fire. They were the only news outlet that carried the story that mentioned that. If that's the case, I would imagine the authorities aren't saying anything due to the ongoing investigation.
This is one of the stories from the Freehold Patch:
Neighbor Reports Fatality in Jackson Mills Road Incident
By Jacklyn Corley July 31, 2011
Several law enforcement departments and fire officials responde to the scene.
A neighbor of the 200 Jackson Mills Road residence that was the scene of a Sunday morning fire said an emergency services professional confirmed a fatality at the home to him. The neighbor, who requested anonymity, said a female in the home ran approximately 200 feet to seek help from another neighbor, who subsequently reported the incident to police.
When approached by a reporter, the second neighbor said he was unable to comment as he was asked to report to the Freehold Township Police Station to speak with the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
The Breaking News Network, which monitors police and fire radio traffic, reported a possible home invasion and fire at 200 Jackson Mills Road after 6 a.m.
The Freehold Township Police Department, Freehold Township Independent Fire Co. #1, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, and the Monmouth County Medical Examiner were at the scene late into Sunday afternoon.
Police and fire officials would not comment on the nature of the incident, referring all questions to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
