Exsmokey:

Thanks for the kind words. The office furntiture is from Staples. My neighbor designed the scanner stand to slide into the area you see in the picture. He used a hard wood and tried to match the stain as best he could.

The 210XLT I have is actually the 40 channel model (2 banks of 20). I can't recall when I bought that one, but I do know it was at Radio Shack. Probably in the early to mid 80's.

I always liked the front firing speaker, blue LED and direct entry. It sat in my basement for about 8 years until recently. I cleaned it up and put it back to work, primarily to monitor the airport I'm near.

Thanks - Mike

B7spectra: Just about all of Southern NH PD (local & state) where I live is digital. We're also close to Northern MA (which is still mainly analog). Believe it or not, there is alot of scanner activity to monitor up here ;-)

The 210xlt was the best scanner for vhf-high band that I have ever owned in 25+ years of radio.

In my experience it was a better receiver than some of the 2m radios I owned.

Mike,
Looking at the vintage radios brought back some fond memories. I wish I had kept every old radio I bought, but they all went to fund better radios throughout the years. All except an old 8 channel cyrstal Bearcat that my dad had and used before he died years ago. I've always want to do exactly as you did after I retired. Well I retired a few weeks ago (at age 57) and moved to Wshington State. I'm excited to add Marine frequencies to listen to. I wish your friend lived closer to me. He did an excellant job. I can't wait till I buy a new house so I can get all of my radios setup. Before I left my hometown I scored a 60' crankup tower for free, so elevation shouldn't be a problem. Your post just made me more impatient :D KEEP THOSE RADIOS FOR POSTERITY

Wow, that's a nice set up. I had that old uniden base scanner, or at least a model very similar.

Sweet! Thanks for the vid! Really nice collection and set-up.

Your accent isn't too bad for New Hampshire either.

That Is A Great Desk!

Very clean setup and nicely laid out. It looks like I've walked into a secret government office somewhere.

I tried to get a night time shot of my working scanners in the new stand. I can't seem to get my digital camera to take a decent shot without light. This was the best I could do. Sorry.

Try looking at the thread in my signature and scroll down to the part about taking good night shots.

Thanks. All of the furniture components came from Staples, except for the piece holding the working scanners (lower right). That was made by my neighbor for me and simply sits on top of the desk from Staples.

Wow, that is a cool looking setup. Nice job.

My father and grandfather both had Bearcat 210's back in the day......I'll have to ask around to see what happened to them. Those were fun times for scanning!

The 210 was a totally groundbreaking design! It really set the standard for future designs. I remember getting mine when it first came out and thinking, "Scanning will never get any better than this!" Then the 220 came out with airband added about a year later and proved me wrong.
